The third Lovebirds location in Pasadena coming soon
Lovebirds Cafe & Bakery, a popular breakfast and lunchtime destination for many who live and work in Pasadena, is opening up their third location in Downtown Pasadena at the still newish convention center. The new location, at the SE corner of Green and Marengo, will be introducing two new salads to the menu: Italian and Breaded Fish salads.

So a few months back while checking out some retail space for a potential restaurant, I learned that the 12-story AT&T office building located between Old Town Pasadena and Paseo Colorado was quietly on the market for sale. The aging office building had long lost its ability to command top rents because of its dated interior that will need tons of remodeling done to bring it up to Class A office standards. In this economic climate? It looks like this office building will be on the market for awhile.

For all those who have been waiting anxiously for 24 Hour Fitness, in the Playhouse District, to reopen after a month-long closure due to remodeling, the wait is finally over as the gym reopened quietly last Saturday. I was eager to check out the improvements, so I stopped on in and snapped a few photos to show what has been changed/improved.
Newly repaved Cordova will get new painted markings that will help enhance both pedestrian and bicyclist safety
I received an update from Ann Erdman, Pasadena’s Public Information Officer, about a “road diet” project happening on Cordova between Mentor and Hill. I was very excited to read about what the project entailed and immediately headed out to see for myself what was being done on Cordova. When I got there, I definitely liked what I saw. Any improvements made to the city to enhance pedestrian safety and make our community more walkable is always welcome in my book.

In case you missed the very exciting news last week (I almost fell over my chair when I read it), it was announced by the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Ray LaHood, that the Obama Administration is now taking a formal stance in support of LA Mayor Villaraigosa’s 30/10 plan to expedite transit construction by borrowing federal funds upfront and paying it back with the guaranteed tax dollars generated from Measure R.

Something new and exciting is developing on the southeast corner of Lake and Colorado — an intersection of two of the most important thoroughfares in Pasadena. Colorado Blvd is the route of the city’s beloved Rose Parade and Lake Ave is lined with corporate towers that have made it into Pasadena’s main financial district. However, the intersection of these two prominent streets sorely lacks the kind of substantial presence one would expect. It doesn’t FEEL important because two corners (out of four) are underutilized and are unfitting for what could be a much more sophisticated grouping of buildings and public space.

The new South Lake Avenue Farmer's Market will happen every Wednesday from 3:30 to 7:30PM
Yesterday was the first day of an exciting new farmers’ market located at Del Mar and Shoppers Lane that helped turn a bland surface parking lot into the center of action for the South Lake Avenue district. There were many vendors selling a variety of fresh produce and other goodies including seafood, flowers, and honey. The new farmers’ market will take place every Wednesday from 3:30 to 7:30PM from June 2 to September 29.

Seafood Grill offers a variety of seafood selections in a casual restaurant environment
Opening in the former Pasha Mediterranean restaurant space in Old Pasadena, the new Seafood Grill will be opening its doors today for lunch (and dinner) and offer a variety of seafood that will be a very nice addition to Pasadena’s growing restaurant list (especially if you like seafood).
