Second Lucky Boy Burger Restaurant Coming to Pasadena

A second Lucky Boy burger restaurant will replace Amy's Fast Food in Pasadena (Inset photo: Pasadena Now)

A lot of “burger news” lately coming from this part of Pasadena. Amy’s Fast Food, across from Fuller Seminary, has been shuttered since August of 2007. The dilapidated freestanding structure has sat here at the corner of Walnut and Oakland waiting…patiently…for years for someone to come and save it and bring it back to life (after apparently a fire put the once-popular fast food restaurant out of business).

After sitting on the market without a successful bite, the owner of the building/site, John, has decided to take matters into his own hands. First alerted by an anonymous reader that another Lucky Boy was slated for this location, I confirmed with the owner of Lucky Boy who also happens to own this shuttered Amy’s Fast Food location (yes, John) that indeed another Lucky Boy is coming. Everything on the menu will be the same at this location, which according to a commenter below, was the original location before it moved to the second location on Arroyo Pkwy new location as the original one located on Arroyo Parkway (across the street from the original, first Trader Joe’s).

John is waiting for the permits to begin construction, which he hopes will be next month. From there, he hopes to have the new Lucky Boy restaurant open in 3 months. So that’s around December 2011.

  1. You have got to be kidding me!

I arrive at Fuller in August of 2007 -- right after Amy’s was closed. Then the month that we leave Pasadena they finally work toward putting a burger stand there???

    What awful timing!

  2. Will they be able to duplicate those fabulous breakfast burritos though? That is the question.

  3. Arroyo is not the site of the original Lucky Boy. It actually started at the Oakland / Walnut location and in high school in the early 70s that’s where we’d go after trips, games, etc. I knew the family had retained the property and we’ve heard all kinds of rumors about what they planned to do with it so I’m glad to hear they plan to (re)replicate Lucky Boy. Welcome Back!

  4. Please no more mention of those overrated breakfast burritos at Lucky Boy. It has the taste of a kitchen sponge.

This being said, glad to see something moving into this spot. Long overdue!

  5. Yay! It’s about a mile closer to me than the one on arroyo. Lucky Boy is a good solid burger joint. This is good news.

  6. Woo Hoo!
Aww man, I have the “opposite” of Ben :( I just moved to N. Los Robles Ave.
about 6 months ago because of a new job, and thought damn, I didnt get to
sample Amy’s, “I wish a Diner would move in”. I may have to go to the
Arroyo location and “practice” on your Burgers :p.
Move in fast please, I see you guys have alot of work ahead of you :D.
    Great location for you guys!
    Cheers!
