Starting late Friday evening and into early Saturday morning, a beautiful new green bike lane was painted on Spring Street that stretches from Cesar Chavez in the north to 9th Street in the south. It was less than a month ago when I had reported that Spring Street was getting a new bike lane and now it’s already happening. The picture above was taken by the LADOT Bike Program and they also have some great short video clips of the green paint being sprayed on.
This is the first actual green painted bike lane in the City of Los Angeles (there’s one in Long Beach as well) and makes a strong political statement that Downtown LA residents demand that the city cater not only to automobiles but cyclists and pedestrians as well–a big difference compared to most of the rest of the “suburban minded” city.

Most of it got washed off yesterday in the rain. Maybe it didn’t get a chance to set well?
Either way think it looks great. and cheery
