Industriel Restaurant Plans to Open by March 2012 in Downtown LA

Industriel replaces Carl's Jr and is slated to open within the next month or two contingent on passing the city's tough inspection process

It’s been exactly one year since Industriel was announced to replace Carl’s Jr at the corner of 6th and Grand on the ground floor of the historic Milano Lofts building. Then last October, the dark metallic “Industriel signs” were installed over the front door (way before opening) giving us a sneak peek at what was to come. Now, the signs have been lit up at night and new black and white posters have gone up over the front windows.

Industriel will be serving up French comfort food and is owned by restaurateur Armen Hakobayan who also owns and operates the Green Street Tavern in Old Town Pasadena. I spoke to a rep at Green Street Tavern recently who informed me that Industriel is “close to opening” and is waiting to pass the final city inspections (known by many other restaurant owners to be a nightmare process). So if everything goes smoothly over, Industriel should be open within the next month or two.

Something interesting happening is that Industriel’s arrival is contributing to another “restaurant row” along Grand Ave intersecting with 7th Street, which has become the main dining scene downtown lately. In addition to Industriel, here’s some other restaurants on Grand Ave: Bottega Louie (at 7th/Grand), Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse (still in lease negotiations), Casey’s Irish Pub, and the newly remodeled Water Grill.

  1. Can’t wait to try this out! 2012 is gonna be the start of the “French Culinary Revolution” for DTLA! we got Industriel, Figaro, Kitchen table, Republique, etc. at the rate we are going, by 2015 DTLA will undoubtedly be the center of LA’s food scene!

  2. good news! dont forget the new club / restaurant across from Bottega

  3. 6th Street is coming into its own with respect to retail storefronts. many of the office lobbies west on 6th street are riding a conversion wave finding landlords spending money to convert dead lobby space into restaurant or bank space. 6th street is becoming the second restaurant row after 7th street. http://dnevnikputeshestvnennika.blogspot.com/
