Coming soon: Peddler’s Creamery uses “man-powered” bicycle-churning to create their ice cream
After all the recent “liquor license” controversy surrounding the New Genesis Apartments and Great Balls on Tires (which I hope eventually gets approved), I am glad some good news comes today from LAist regarding the same building (a tip sent in by DTLA resident Torr Leonard). A new and novel kind of ice cream shop called Peddler’s Creamery is coming to the New Genesis Apartments at 458 S Main St.
What makes Peddler’s Creamery different from other ice cream shops is the way it’s made. The ice cream is churned by man power using specially retrofitted bicycles. There will be an assortment of organic dairy and non-dairy ice cream and other frozen desserts and treats.
Owner Edward Belden plans to open ASAP with a timeline as soon as the next CicLAvia event on October 7, 2012 even though the shop will likely not be fully built out yet. As a testament to Downtown LA’s continued revitalization, Belden is quoted on LAist as saying, “I love the historic character of the neighborhood and the assortment of unique restaurants.”

OMG!. I just can’t take all this excitement with all the new businesses coming to downtown. I’m in heaven.
they should work with the gym down the street and offer spinning classes on those bikes and make tons of “no guilt” ice cream.
This is an awesome addition to all the great new businesses opening up!!!
this is awesome… mike alvidrez promised me an ice cream shop there and he delivered! so he has my full support. wish the cup in the restaurant next door in the same building wasn’t such a mess with the controversial cup.
Please tell me that everyone working there is going to be wearing “Gilligan’s Island” outfits!
This will be great. Too bad it’s not here today though with this heat. Also would love if they had soft serve.
