Downtown LA has been gaining steam when it comes to the casual fashion world. Last year, Gap highlighted Downtown LA in their global marketing campaign, tying the city’s unique urban landscape to the brand’s revamped denim line 1969. Then earlier this year, Lucky Brand moved their corporate headquarters to Downtown LA’s Arts District by the LA River (“ditching” Vernon). Now that exciting momentum continues with the recent announcement that the upscale clothing labels, Splendid and Ella Moss, will be relocating their corporate headquarters to Alameda Square where global fashion chain American Apparel is also headquartered.
According to a recent press release, Splendid and Ella Moss (two brands under the same umbrella company VF Corporation, which also owns 7 For All Mankind) will be taking over 82,000 square feet of space on two full floors. The new office will have 200 employees in product development, design, marketing and sales, finance, retail operations, customer service as well as other administrative functions.
For those who may not be familiar with Splendid or Ella Moss, a look at where the stores are located will give you an idea about brands’ strategic choice of locations strengthening the brands’ image and reputation. For example, Splendid has 12 total locations in North America (with one store in Canada) including one on trendy Robertson here in LA and Soho New York. Both brands offer high quality and fashionable casual clothing appealing to the stylish and younger demographic.
As Downtown LA continues to attract more fashion companies to locate their headquarters here, it is my hope that eventually these fashion companies will also begin to open their Los Angeles flagship retail locations in Downtown LA as well (including Guess), bringing people back into the city for a truly authentic urban shopping experience.
