A Brooks Brothers store is looking to open a location inside the Jonathan Club (open to the general public as well)
The upscale clothing retailer Brooks Brothers is looking to open a new store inside the private social club, Jonathan Club, located at 6th and Figueroa. Although a lease has not been signed yet, according to the General Manager of the Jonathan Club, Matthew Allnatt, Brooks Brothers would be taking over the floral shop that is currently facing Figueroa near the club’s front entrance. The store would also be open to the general public with access to the store directly from the sidewalk. The new store would be approximately 1,400 square feet (including some space in the basement that would be used for the tailor shop) and would focus on the brand’s suit and business attire collection — a perfect fit with the club’s dress code and the high concentration of white collar jobs in Downtown LA.
Brooks Brothers has been closely tied with Downtown LA since the late 1930s as it was originally housed in the Brockman Building at 7th and Grand where the popular restaurant Bottega Louie is now located. Interestingly enough, Brooks Brothers relocated in 1989 directly across the street from the Jonathan Club (catercorner) but closed down in March 2010.
Downtown LA has been gaining tremendous momentum over the last several years, especially when it comes to the culinary scene. With the new City Target opening last month at the new FIGat7th, retailers are expected to be the next wave of developments downtown. Brooks Brothers returning to Downtown LA is a testament to the rebound in the retail scene here.

While I’m not a huge BB fan, I think it’s a great fit for that part of downtown and would hopefully draw the notice of other retailers.
I’m so glad they are opening a Brooks Brothers again in Downtown Los Angeles. I hope that with Brooks Brothers reopening it will attract other retailers such as JCrew, Banana Republic, and White House Black Market.
This is fantastic news. I shop at BB often and I will definately shop in the dt location. I was a regular at the dt Seattle store. I am so happy right now. :-)
If I remember the articles from the time their 6th Street store closed wasn’t their original plan not to actually leave downtown. Hadn’t they signed on to move to the Grand Avenue Project and due to the unending delays they were stuck without the new location when their lease on 6th was up?
I Love LA!
Nice shirt in your profile. Where can I get an “I Love LA” t-shirt? You need to put up a link. Maybe make some money too.
ooo this is where ima buy all my suitses :D
This is great news. BB will continue to distinguish Downtown LA as a unique shopping experience. You’re certainly not going to find a BB in Arcadia or Westminster. Understandably, the Westside already has 2 stores, but this location will serve as a bridge between there and the other location way down in southern OC. The diversity of retail within blocks of each other (from the funky garment district to mainstream City Target to Brooks Bros) will set Downtown apart from any other community in SoCal. It’s so great to see a place developing (slowly, but surely) where the well-heeled and the working class can live in the same neighborhood.
This will also help the pedestrian flow on the west side of Figueroa by creating a both a day time shopping destination and a night time window shopping experience.
