Help Name Wood Partner’s New 22-Story Apartment Tower in Downtown LA

An updated rendering provided by Wood Partners of the new 22-story 290-unit apartment tower rising at the corner of 8th and Hope in Downtown LA

In February 2012, we reported that Wood Partners filed permits with the City of LA to begin construction on their new 22-story 290-unit apartment tower in Downtown LA. Then early last month, ground broke on the new project at the SW corner of 8th and Hope with a timeline to finish construction in 2014. The developer of the new mixed-use urban infill project, Wood Partners, is a national developer with a construction portfolio totaling $5.5 billion. Not only will the project add tremendous value to the immediate neighborhood by activating the corner with pedestrian and commercial activity — there will be 5,000 square feet of retail space at the corner — but Wood Partners is also reaching out to the community to get involved with the project through their “8th and Hope” blog. One of the first outreach efforts entails getting feedback from the downtown community to name the new apartment tower!

I suggest the new Wood Brothers apartments be called: Residencias Esperanza. Hope Residences

  2. I guess iHope is out of the running…

  3. First Methodist Episcopal Tower, in memory of the lost church that sat there for 60 years until demolished in 1982 by the Gas Co.

  4. Better yet the FME Tower.

  5. iHope for sure!!!

  6. SkyLofts VueBlock, SPF100

  7. I’ve always liked iHope.

the residence should be called ‘Posada Esperanza”

  9. 801 Esperanza Towers

  10. How about LUX? Meaning light in Latin, but also short for luxury.

  11. I think they should name it The Ionic named after the Ionic style of architectural columns: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ionic_order
They could restore one of the old columns that they found from the methodist church and have it on display somewhere..

  12. Please, anything other than Alta. We already have Alta lofts in Lincoln Heights, Alta Apts in Hollywood, and the historic Los Altos on Wilshire.

801 Hope. Building does not call for strange name. 801 Hope fits it perfectly.

  14. How about –
    Hope on 8th

  15. I think it should be called Keith.

  16. Please name it Glass House Los Angeles! It seems that apartments are always named after street corners! This is L.A. and it needs a fancy name…

  17. I like Esperanza– reference to the street without having a no name like 801 Hope. Glass House sounds weird– it’s not a house, and reminds me of Glass Tower that was forever promised to go up on 11th and Grand but finally died not too long ago (not that it’s a good thing it died, but we all knew it wasn’t gonna happen). Glass Building maybe, but then when you say, “I live in the Glass Building,” people might be like, “which glass building?”

  19. I think the name of the new highrise should be The MAN-grove! LOL! That might be more appropriate for a gay nightclub or a tower in WeHo or SoBe, but hey, I thought it was clever and evocative. What do ya think?
