A new high end sushi restaurant currently named “Q Sushi” is coming to 7th Street’s Restaurant Row in Downtown LA, which recently just gained a new French bistro called Coco Laurent. Located directly across the street from Bottega Louie, the new sushi restaurant is being built out in the former Eco-Asian space that shuttered in less than a year.
The owners of Q Sushi aren’t providing much info about their new venture except that an experienced sushi chef from Tokyo may be at the helm once the restaurant opens, and apparently Q Sushi will be omakase style — meaning you go with the chef’s choice, no menu, no prices. All details will be finalized closer to opening.
First quarter of 2013 looks like a possible opening date for Q Sushi. Build out of the restaurant space continues but still looks like there’s a ways to go before it is finished along with passing inspections. Q Sushi will be the third Japanese sushi restaurant along 7th Street including SugarFish by Sushi Nozawa and Octopus.

Really? Another sushi place? I love sushi but, honestly, Restaurant Row doesnt need another sushi option. What we have now is more than sufficient. How about a deli or a diner? Where would you go in this area for a good matzo ball soup, or a Ruben, or a pastrami, or a real cheesecake? late night? No where. Groan.
While I agree that I think there are more than enough Sushi places within a couple of blocks on 7th (I can think of 3 quickly off the top of my head) I do believe it is up to the owner’s to decide if they think the area can handle one more. That is what the free market is all about. If it can’t, one or more of these establishments will fail. But they are putting up the money and if they want to risk it on their idea for this establishment over another concept then I wish them the best of luck and say, may the best fish survive.
Somebody thinks that omakase will make it when Eco-Asian couldn’t?? Mmmkay.
Re: Belial, what does one business have to do with the other? the price point for the type of food at Eco Asian was way too high. High end sushi does real well on 7th street and i suspect it will be just fine.
Yessssss. High end super-traditional omakase style sushi is one of my biggest vices. I’ve been to almost every major sushi restaurant in Los Angeles, and am extremely happy to see that another is opening up. This is , for me at least, great news.
The place needs an Argentine steak house.
Ugh, another high-end place that actual locals can’t afford.
I’d love to see someone open a restaurant that served old fashioned comfort food. sigh.
