Last year, rumors were swirling that the owners (Erik Oberholtzer, Matt Lyman, and David Dressler) of Tender Greens — a popular health-conscious eatery that started in Culver City back in 2006 — were in search of a new restaurant location in Downtown LA. Now a year later, I am excited to announce that Tender Greens will be opening later this year at the beautiful historic PacMutual Building at 6th and Olive near Pershing Square.
With nine locations in Southern California (including Hollywood, Santa Monica, and Pasadena), Tender Greens is known for their mostly locally sourced ingredients with produce mainly coming from the Scarborough Farms from Oxnard in Ventura County. In addition, their site explains, “Our beef comes from grain-fed hormone/antibiotic free cows. Our chickens are raised on the range in Northern California, not in cages. They are nourished with grain instead of hormone-rich feed. Our tuna is line caught from the Pacific.”
I am very excited about Tender Greens opening on 6th Street because of the strong lunch and dinner business at all their other locations. That success will likely translate into their new downtown location and help activate this block on 6th Street, especially at night.
Their arrival into the PacMutual Building also strengthens the repositioning efforts the building’s new urban-minded owners, Rising Realty Partners, have recently undertaken to transform the historic landmark asset from a once dowdy office building into a hip, urban destination with creative offices and high quality restaurants and shops exemplified by Water Grill’s amazing $1.5 million renovation last year as well as becoming a Zipcar hot spot in Downtown LA.
The current timeline for Tender Greens is to open in late 2013.
