Earlier this week, Brooks Brothers officially marked their return back to Downtown LA with the installation of new “Opening Spring 2013″ window signs at the Jonathan Club at 6th and Figueroa. You might remember we first reported about Brooks Brothers coming to the JC back in Nov 2012, which is another sign that the Downtown LA retail scene is starting to come back to life again after an extended dormancy.

Brooks Brothers has been closely tied with Downtown LA since the late 1930s as it was originally housed in the Brockman Building at 7th and Grand where the popular restaurant Bottega Louie is now located. Interestingly enough, Brooks Brothers relocated in 1989 directly across the street from the Jonathan Club (catercorner) but closed down in March 2010.

Downtown LA has been gaining tremendous momentum over the last several years, especially when it comes to the culinary scene. With the new City Target opening in October 2012 at the new FIGat7th and a major remodeling planned for Macy’s Plaza, retailers are expected to be the next wave of developments downtown in the next 5 years. Brooks Brothers returning to Downtown LA is a testament to the rebound in the downtown market.

With only two stores in LA (a flagship on Rodeo Drive and another at Westfield Century City), this will be Brooks Brothers third LA location in Downtown LA. The 1,400 square foot store is actively under construction replacing the former Ixora floral shop located directly next to the Jonathan Club’s main entrance fronting Figueroa. Brooks Brothers Downtown LA is slated to open in late April/early May 2013.

  1. I am happy about this but why so small of a store? Besides Macy’s there’s nowhere for downtown men to buy a nice suit.

  2. john kennamann

Try Italian corner in the fashion district. 8th and Los Angeles – so many suit shops.

  3. This is great news BB is coming back to downtown. Fashion retail is more than welcome on that side of town.

There are a few nice places to get suits downtown. On S Los Angeles and 8th, there’s an abundance of medium grade suit stores. But in the Fashion Marts like Cal and New Mart there are some fantastic designers willing to make a custom suit. First one to come to my head is districthomme.com

  4. We need a Rodeo drive in downtown.

  5. we should be so lucky.

  6. This seems like an unusual location in that it is not a retail oriented area. That said, BB is so well known that customers will seek it out. I understand that when BB was catty-corner across the street, the store closing had nothing to do with sales. Their lease was up for renewal and it became contentious to the point where neither BB nor the landlord would give in. Neither wanted BB to leave. Glad to see them back.

  7. I, along with countless other Brooks loyalists are over joyed to have Brooks back again in Los Angeles. We hope the former staff is back, they were the best. JPK

  8. There will never be a Los Angeles based (or otherwise) Brooks Brothers for me other than the old brand at the old store I used to go to as a young man. And btw Is the new shop at the JC going to have Brooks Brother’s clothes with Chinese labels too? They appear to me to push American made? Where? I received an order of their Traditional Fit boxers and was horrified to see a a label with Chinese characters!
