The new 27,000 square foot flagship Sport Chalet, designed by global architect firm Gensler, is now open at FIGat7th in Downtown LA

It’s been roughly a year since Sport Chalet announced their newest flagship location would open at FIGat7th in Downtown LA. The new 27,000 square foot store (the same size as the forthcoming Zara flagship!), located on the lower level next to Gold’s Gym and underneath City Target, soft opened today adding to the growing list of exciting new retailers that are coming back to LA’s urban center.

Designed by global architect firm, Gensler, the new Downtown LA Sport Chalet has a modern and urban aesthetic that differs from their suburban locations, which are usually designed to resemble “mountain lodges.” The store’s facade — marked by various symbols of sports activities like skateboarding and bicycling — is divided in two with one side of the entrance featuring sleek metallic black panels and the other side a more traditional wood. Inside, there is an industrial feel with polished concrete floors and exposed ceilings.

With 53 stores in California, Nevada, and Utah, Sport Chalet is a one-stop-shop emporium for everything and anything related to sports and fitness (both indoor and outdoor). Sport Chalet in Downtown LA will also be the first location to offer the company’s new “Expert Center,” which will host educational clinics to engage the local downtown community. In addition, it’ll also be the main information center for the store where customers can inquire about fitness and sports related questions.

Good point re: golfing equipment. Being surrounded by skyscrapers filled during the day with undoubtedly a bunch of golf aficionados, it is bizarre that they would have left that out. But I plan on visiting today at lunch — seems like a great addition!!!

  4. This store looks great!!! I can’t wait to check it out after the gym!

Went here yesterday at lunch. The store actually does have a small golf section, but they offer only balls and gloves and other similarly small accessories; i.e., no clubs on offer. I did a price check too — Titleist Pro v1x is $5 cheaper here than at the nearby Target — in fact, when I was thinking about it while at the Sport Chalet, I recalled that Target offers some sporting goods, and was glad to see that at least Sport Chalet seems to be pricing themselves to an advantage (though I only checked on product). Anyway, neat store.

Would have been nice to have this on a street view, so when people walk by they see all those bikes and kayaks.
