A sign for Mabel’s Chicken and Waffles has gone up on Olympic Blvd mid-block between Olive and Hill in South Park. Chef Jason Harley, who has been a personal chef to celebrity clients like Cameron Diaz and Scarlett Johansson, is behind the new forthcoming restaurant. Harley, also a featured chef at LA Food and Wine last month, was behind Pici Enoteca in Beverly Hills. Opening soon by the end of October, Mabel’s will be a flagship concept for a “franchise of family-friendly affordable restaurants built on his take on classic comfort food.” His LAFW bio gives a sneak peek inside the restaurant.
Mabel’s continues to help push the boundary of urban revitalization into newer territory in Downtown LA. Mabel’s location in a one-story historic structure in the still-quiet northeastern section of South Park is also directly across the street from the future 287-unit Hanover mixed-use project actively under construction, which will not only add potentially 400 new residents to the immediate area but have 16,000 square feet of retail of its own to further activate this stretch of Olympic. In addition, the hyper-trendy fashion retailer The Well is right around the corner at Olympic and Olive.
