The exciting evolution of Downtown LA’s retail scene continues with the opening of Aesop’s new chic pop-up shop on 9th Street located next door to their future permanent store currently under construction on the corner of 9th/Broadway. The pop-up, which just opened last Thursday, takes over a vacant space once occupied by Connie’s Cut ‘n Style hair salon and will be open through the holidays until the permanent store debuts in Jan 2014.
Aesop is a high-end apothecary retailer originally from Melbourne, Australia, selling a full line of beauty and skin care products. With exclusive locations in a handful of American cities (New York, San Francisco, Boston, and now Los Angeles), Aesop is usually sold through other upscale retailers like Barney’s New York. They are known for their plant-based ingredients and smart branding collaborations, such as their team-up with French fashion line A.P.C. creating a hilarious toiletry item “Post-Poo Drops” that’s apparently very effective!
The new permanent Aesop store will open in early January next year in a 1,000 square foot corner space at 9th/Broadway replacing what used to be a less-than-desirable check cashing branch. Portland’s Tanner Goods will also be opening on Broadway early next year between Aesop and Umami Broadway (formerly Umamicatessen).
Ninth and Broadway has become the epicenter of Broadway’s urban revitalization as a critical mass of high-end businesses have coalesced around this intersection including Ace Hotel and Swedish fashion retailer Acne Studios opening their global flagship store at the Eastern Columbia building.
Aesop’s new pop-up in Downtown LA will be open every day from 11 am to 7 pm. For more info on the full line of skin care/beauty products, visit Aesop online.
