Ninth and Broadway just got even more exciting this weekend with the opening of Tanner Goods this past Sunday afternoon. The new Tanner Goods store in Downtown LA is only the second one outside of Portland, Oregon. The boutique is about 1,000 square feet large with soaring high ceilings giving the store a beautiful and spacious industrial ambiance. For those unfamiliar with the brand, Tanner Goods is a maker of leather goods including bags, wallets, gloves, and belts. However, you’ll find more than just accessories as a full line of clothing attire and shoes are stocked as well from various brands including Norse Projects from Denmark, Tellason denim and Tanner Goods’ own clothing line called The Woodlands.
What’s happening around 9th/Broadway is nothing short of amazing. Literally just a year ago, it was still unclear if Downtown LA would ever really attract the kind of high quality retail stores you would expect to find on the Westside. While Downtown LA did indeed become a national epicurean hotspot with chef-driven concepts opening what seemed like every week or month (Bar Ama, Terroni, Bestia, etc), it seriously lacked any strong retail momentum. A strong well-rounded urban center is more than just food. We also wanted our shopping to go along with all that foodie goodness. Then the imminent arrival of Ace Hotel changed the trajectory of Broadway no one could’ve ever imagined by attracting a slew of new-to-LA retailers putting Broadway immediately on the map. And now the opening of Tanner Goods adds to a growing retail district centered around this rapidly evolving intersection.
Next up: Aesop will be opening soon next door to Tanner Goods.
