So it was “supposed to” open yesterday on June 4th, but there was a small tiny delay because of one little city inspection that still needed to be passed before Zara could finally open. The inspection happened literally at midnight (last night) and obviously went smoothly because Zara opened their doors today at 10 am. All the window coverings were removed, revealing a beautifully built out store that becomes a solid anchor at the FIGat7th shopping center (along with H&M and City Target). Nevertheless, one more day of not opening felt like an entire week for many of us who have been eager to see LA’s newest and largest Zara flagship store open in Downtown LA, signaling the rising change happening to our once-desolate and abandoned urban core.

At 27,000 square feet, this is Zara’s largest “top” store in Los Angeles and is a huge statement that retailers finally see downtown as not only a viable market but also a location that retailers want to make their presence known. The one-level sprawling space is currently divided into two completely separate sections: the men’s store is located closer to Figueroa and the women’s/children’s store is located directly next door closer to H&M. Each store is further divided into different sections featuring a diverse range of collections from casual to formal. Eventually, I was told that the separated men’s and women’s stores would hopefully be combined if they can figure out how to work around the internal hallway for the shopping center.

The new Downtown LA Zara store hours will be open 10 am to 9 pm from Monday through Saturday, and 11 am to 8 pm on Sundays.

Was there yesterday and it was pretty dead. Only saw 1 person carrying a Zara bag, the rest were H&M. Kinda sad. Hope they do well, although it seems like a dismal start. DTLA just seems to be one disappointment after another :(

    Chris-

My view from the boyfriend seat is apparently a little different than yours. It’s packed today.

“DTLA just seems to be one disappointment after another” ?? Really??? That statement seems completely ridiculous to me.

Chris, are you sure you were at the correct H&M location, because I’ve been there the past few days and it’s always had a strong, steady stream of customers. Your comment about Downtown being “one disappointment after another” is probably due more to your attitude and mentality in general, not downtown at all. I won’t even begin to point out how ridiculous such a statement is, but you obviously haven’t been paying attention to all the new development opening up around downtown in the past few weeks and months.

I was there yesterday with my GF at Fig@7th and observed Zara and H&M are attracting quite a bit of foot traffic, so it’s hardly “dead”. The food court TASTE staying open later than usual is also a huge plus. Sports Chalet had a steady stream of customers as well (many LA Kings fans buying championship gear?).
