The transformation of the Broadway Spring Arcade is finally picking up steam now! After years of dormancy, it’s finally starting to feel like the historic arcade is speeding up its revitalization process akin to what we’re seeing at the amazing Grand Central Market up the street. Just this week, the much anticipated Guisados tacos shop opened with great reception from the downtown community (aka long lines). And the long-long-stalled Royal Claytons to open across from Guisados will also begin construction soon. Now, a new healthy eatery will be opening this fall called Green Grotto Juice Bar that will begin construction this month in a space directly across from Gelateria ULI. “Coming soon” signs were posted on their windows earlier this week.

Green Grotto Juice Bar will build out in a 900 square foot space and have a modern and clean design (renderings below) that will complement the other new eateries opening inside the historic arcade. Cold-pressed juices will be served as well as ready-to-drink bottled juices, smoothies, acai bowls, organic coffee and teas, and specialty shots. Customers can order their own juice combinations and specialty shots by experiencing Green Grotto’s juicing chef, known as a “juiceoligist,” stationed behind the bar. But Green Grotto plans to be more than just a juice bar and really a juice lounge offering free WiFi and entertainment, including viewing parties for the community for big sport events or TV shows. There will be indoor and outdoor patio seating in the arcade.

The owner of Green Grotto, Kieran Roberts, was a mixologist at West Hollywood’s STK steakhouse for over 2 years, which influenced his bar-lounge concept for the juice shop. Growing up in Brooklyn, NY his mother and grandmother exposed him to their Caribbean culture, and as a result, Roberts will offer Jamaican-style veggie, chicken, beef, or shrimp patties on the menu for $3.

Green Grotto is slated to open in late October 2014 with hours from 7 am to 11 pm every day (and longer if the downtown community supports it).

  1. I really hope the Vomit Backpack store can move out. I always wonder why they have so much stuff and I wonder if it even sells
