Fashionistas rejoice! A new upscale women’s boutique called AltHouse just opened a couple of months ago at 8th and Main, pushing the new downtown development momentum east into the Fashion District. The new shop, located next door to Skingraft’s also new flagship store, adds to an exciting shopping district in the making within the Historic Core, which includes other nearby stores like Nudie Jeans, Urban Outfitters, Acne Studios, and APC’s new downtown location opening this spring. AltHouse offers a unique experience in both the brands it carries and the beautiful space it occupies.
Started by Jennifer Althouse — who grew up in Los Angeles — her eponymous store carries select styles and brands such as NY based labels Rachel Comey and Suno, a fine selection of LA based designers Calvin Rucker and Kristen Elspeth, as well as her own in-house brand called ALT. You’ll also find shoes, sunglasses, accessories, fragrances, and other scented home and bath items like candles and soaps.
Althouse decided to open her first boutique in Downtown LA — forsaking the usual go-to spots on the Westside or Silver Lake/Echo Park — after falling in love with the industrial chic space her store now occupies within the historic 1927 Great Republic Lofts building. At 1,650 square feet, the space retains much of the historic character with original mosaic tile floors, soaring high ceilings, and giant gorgeous windows that drown her store with beautiful nature lighting — making for the perfect shopping experience she was looking for.

AltHouse is located at 761 S Main Street with store hours Tuesday thru Saturday, 12 – 6 pm, Sundays 12 – 5 pm and closed Mondays.
