Coffee lovers rejoice! The wait is finally over. San Francisco’s uber popular Philz Coffee soft opened earlier today in Downtown LA at 8th and Hope with a long snaking line that wrapped all the way around the corner and down the block along Hope Street. Excited downtown residents and office workers packed the coffee shop eager to try the Bay Area chain’s highly reputable coffee and pastries known for their iced mint mojito topped with actual mint leaves.
Announced almost a year ago, Philz Coffee took forever to come to fruition, but we’re all glad it’s finally open especially since South Park residents now have a solid third-wave coffee outpost to grab their caffeinated fix without having to leave the neighborhood. The 1,700 square foot space occupies the very prominent corner at the 8th+Hope luxury apartment tower with plenty of both indoor and expansive outdoor patio seating helping to activate this once-desolate intersection with new life.
This is Philz Coffee’s second LA location with another one in Santa Monica. For the next 4 to 6 weeks, the hours of operation will be 6 am to 9 pm seven days a week. After about a month, the hours will be adjusted according to neighborhood demand. If there are still a lot of people consistently coming in later in the evening, it will stay open later. For example, the South San Francisco location closes at 10 pm. So go grab that evening coffee at Philz to keep the hours open late!
