You probably smelled the subtle aroma of sweet donuts and coffee today if you were standing on the corner of 8th and Olive in Downtown LA. That’s because DTLA’s very first Dunkin’ Donuts (sometimes referred to as just “Dunkin” or “DD”) had its grand opening today opening its doors bright and early at 5 am with an outdoor ribbon cutting ceremony held at 9:30 am. Throughout the day, hundreds of people — most of them office workers and residents who live and work downtown — streamed into the new Dunkin’ happily carrying out boxes of donuts and cups of coffee.
The new Dunkin Donuts has already done wonders at brightening up and activating this once dreary corner. The shiny new 2,000 square foot store replaces what was once a pretty shabby women’s “vintage” clothing shop, and since DTLA Rising announced their arrival back in October 2015, the three-story historic edifice that houses DD called the “Hotel Olive,” which is known by locals to have a problem with illicit drug activity, has had its facade cleaned up and painted with new bright cheerful orange and brown DD colors. It’s little improvements like these spread throughout downtown that will help clean up and make our streets safer and more vibrant. To see what the Hotel Olive used to look like, click here.
Ubiquitous on the East Coast, Dunkin’ Donuts has been opening more locations on the West Coast lately. They are known for their coffee and donuts as well as their breakfast menu served all day. And here’s a little known fact. Apparently the reason why DD’s coffee is so good lies in every store’s required expensive water filtration system that includes an EverPure high efficiency reverse osmosis filter that gives that water the “secret” pure taste!
Dunkin’ will be open every day from 5 am to 11 pm. Hours may likely be extended (could become 24 hours if demand is there) once the Freehand Hotel opens next year.
And here’s the secret to that great tasting coffee…
