MYKITA Opens First West Coast Store at 9th/Broadway in Downtown LA

The high-end Berlin eyewear brand MyKita has opened its first West Coast store here in Downtown LA at 9th/Broadway

Anyone who stands at the corner of 9th and Broadway in Downtown LA can see the writing on the wall. What used to be an intersection devoid of life is now humming with an urban pulse that’s only going to get stronger with time. Not too long ago, the intersection was dominated by check cashing centers and abandoned vacant storefronts. Now a few years later, the scene is quite different with high-end retail businesses anchoring almost all four corners and rippling out into adjacent nearby buildings and intersections including 9th and Main, which is also becoming another hot spot with Verve Coffee serving as the neighborhood’s central gathering place. And things seem to be only looking up as another high-end retailer, this time an exclusive Berlin eyewear brand called MYKITA, has just opened their newest Los Angeles outpost here at 9th and Broadway.

MYKITA opened about a month ago in late September taking up tenancy on the ground floor of the spectacular Eastern Columbia art deco tower. Replacing what used to be a small furniture store, the new upscale eyewear shop continues to elevate the caliber of retail tenants at the Eastern Columbia joining Swedish brand Acne Studios and Danish brand Han Kjøbenhavn, which the latter is hoping to open by the end of the year as well. DTLA Rising first broke the news that MYKITA was coming to Downtown LA back in March 2016.

Funny enough, all three brands chose to locate their first (and possibly only) Los Angeles stores here in DTLA proving that downtown is definitely on the global fashion retail map and that the old adage “birds of a feather flock together” rings so true when it comes to retail growth. Already, we’re seeing so much more retail activity starting to coalesce around this vicinity helping to bridge together a disjointed downtown.

At 1,500 square feet, the haute eyewear brand from Germany, selling prescription frames and sunglasses that are handmade in their factory in Berlin (known for their unique hingeless design with no screws or welded joints), has transformed the space into a visually stunning store with ultra-modern display cases and the company’s trademark monochromatic design.

The new MYKITA in Downtown LA is the only store on the West Coast and only the third store in the country with NYC and DC being the other two locations.

MYKITA is open every day Mon through Sat 11 am to 7 pm and Sundays noon to 6 pm. Check their website for updated info.

  1. Suzanne says

Actually, you mentioned Verve, but right next door to MYKITA, is Il Caffe – Also, a coffee lovers find, dog friendly, and pastries and breads from Bread Lounge.

    • Nah, Suzanne meant the pastries at Il Cafe are from Bread Lounge, and I agree… It’s a fabulous coffee shop. I prefer it over Verve, just because it’s a bit more lowly, but Verve is great too!

      • Whoops, meant low key, not lowly. I’ll blame autocorrect for that one, but haven’t had my coffee yet… So, I’m probably the lowly one ;)

  2. Also, spamming up a bit here, but that’s the first I’ve heard of Han Kjøbenhavn. Is that going in where that Pilates studio was? Good news.
