New Petco Store Opens in South Park in Downtown LA

The new 5,000 square foot Petco store opened in Downtown LA's South Park district on Dec 5, 2016

Pet lovers rejoice! And since Downtown LA is chock-full of residents with their furry pets, there should be quite a few downtowners happy to see that Petco has finally opened their doors for business this past week selling everything a pet owner could possibly need. It’s also another sign that large chains, who once shunned downtown, are finally beginning to see Downtown LA as a viable and desirable location to open their stores in.

Petco opened this past Monday, Dec 5, after a two-month long delay apparently caused by City of LA inspectors. Initially, the pet store was supposed to open in early October and also under the “Unleashed by Petco” concept, which is usually in a smaller store format. However, the company decided to go with the full Petco store — a stronger brand identity overall — for their debut location in Downtown LA.

Located at 9th and Hope, Petco takes over a ground floor retail space within a parking structure that will be used mainly by future residents of the adjacent 888 S Hope residential tower project now actively under construction (click here to see renderings of the 33-story tower and parking structure facade completed).

The 5,000 square foot store with its cool industrial vibe may be smaller than a usual Petco, but it’s still packed with pretty much everything you would need for your dog or cat including pet food, supplies, toys, kitty litter, and more. In addition, helpful pet services such as dog training and vaccinations are also available at the store.

And as a dog owner myself (you might have seen me walking Max around downtown), I’m especially excited that the new Downtown LA Petco has self-wash dog stations! For a very good price of only $10 (most other places are between $12-$15), Petco will supply shampoo and towels for you to wash your furry best friends.

Petco will be hosting a grand opening celebration this weekend (Dec 9 thru 11) with free giveaways, $5 self-wash for dogs, and photo-ops with Santa Claus!

Another big win for South Park! I like all the windows facing the street!

  2. When are they going to install the architectural panels on the parking structure seen in the rendering?

Why do you confine yourselves to only dogs and cats. Pet supplies for fish and birds would double your clientele.
