Painters added the finishing touches to Two Boots Pizza's new mural sign as the restaurant prepares to open next week

On Thursday afternoon, two painters (or artists) were perched high on a mechanical lifter adding the finishing touches to the new Two Boots Pizza mural signage set against a bright yellow facade. The final prep work was an exciting moment to witness as Two Boots is only days away from opening on Broadway (LA’s second location after Echo Park), adding to the revival of LA’s architecturally grandest thoroughfare.

Starbucks at Skyline Condos Begins Construction in Downtown LA

These white construction walls were put up this week as Starbucks begins construction at the Skyline Condos in South Park

Back in Jan 2012, it was reported that a Starbucks was replacing the former Minute Man Press retail space at the Skyline Condominiums in South Park at the corner of 9th/Flower. For about 4 months, the space has sat dormant waiting for permits to be approved by the city. This week, construction has finally begun with a temporary white wall erected around the future patio seating area of Starbucks. The coffee chain will be a welcome addition to this corner as it will activate it bringing more life to this area. Construction is moving full steam ahead and should be done by the end of June.

Back in 2007, you may remember that the short nondescript building that stands at the corner of 4th and Broadway (NE corner) caught on fire in the wee hours of the night. For over 5 years since the fire, the tattered structure has stood empty surrounded by scaffolds waiting for the right time to be redeveloped. Could we be close to seeing some development activity as momentum is gaining on Broadway after both Umamicatessen and Famima have recently opened?

The Brockman Lofts Purchased by Simpson Housing Group, Will Become Luxury Rentals in Downtown LA

The Brockman is one of the most beautiful historic structures in Los Angeles and sits in the center of all of the urban renaissance activity (above Bottega Louie as well), making it an extremely attractive location to live for those who want to be near the action

Eighty residential units inside one of Downtown LA’s most beautiful historic structures, The Brockman (built in 1917), have been sitting vacant and unnoticed above one of Downtown LA’s most popular restaurants Bottega Louie. The Brockman is a historic commercial structure that was converted into residential lofts in 2010. But it has endured a tumultuous journey as the economic downturn forced its original developer, West Millennium, into bankruptcy. However, word comes today that real estate firm Colliers International has successfully sold The Brockman to Denver-based Simpson Housing Group, which also owns and operates the Security Lofts at 5th/Spring in Downtown LA.

Ritz Carlton Residences at LA Live Introduces Executive Level Housing to Downtown LA

The Ritz Carlton Residences add executive quality housing to Downtown LA that will eventually help attract company executives to move downtown (Photo: Ritz Carlton Residences at LA Live)

LA is no stranger when it comes to ultra luxury condo towers, but most are on the Westside (a more suburban, car-oriented section of Los Angeles). Think of Robert A.M. Stern-designed The Century (in Century City) with its new famous penthouse resident Candy Spelling trading in her 56,500 square foot mansion in the Holmby Hills for her new 16,500 square foot digs on the 42nd floor. That luxury condo trend has continued eastward, making its way to Downtown LA where the Ritz-Carlton Residences at LA Live is one of the few truly executive quality housing options available in our urban center — for now. With prices that range from $800,000 to $9.3 million, the luxury condo units are aimed at wealthy buyers who demand great amenities, high appointments, and attentive concierge service.
