One of the most unique commercial retail spaces in all of Los Angeles is getting a new business. Many people still don’t know this, but there is only one subway station in all of LA that has an actual retail space located within the station. As an ardent pedestrian and transit advocate, I am super excited to report that the 7th Street/Metro Center station (the busiest in LA), located in the very heart of Downtown LA’s bustling Financial District, is getting a brand new Dunkin’ Donuts shop!
You probably smelled the subtle aroma of sweet donuts and coffee today if you were standing on the corner of 8th and Olive in Downtown LA. That’s because DTLA’s very first Dunkin’ Donuts (sometimes referred to as just “Dunkin” or “DD”) had its grand opening today opening its doors bright and early at 5 am with an outdoor ribbon cutting ceremony held at 9:30 am. Throughout the day, hundreds of people — most of them office workers and residents who live and work downtown — streamed into the new Dunkin’ happily carrying out boxes of donuts and cups of coffee.
Fans of Dunkin’ Donuts rejoice! I am happy to report that Downtown LA’s very first DD store is coming to the ground floor of the historic Hotel Olive located on the northeast corner of 8th and Olive on the cusp of the Financial District, Historic Core, and South Park. The new Dunkin’ Donuts will be about 2,000 square feet large and will take over the corner of the building with its store frontage mostly facing Olive Street replacing a couple of shuttered stores including Ramona’s Fashions.
