Yesterday was yet another exciting milestone when it comes to retail development in Downtown LA where the largest H&M store in Southern California grand opened at FIGat7th in the Financial District. Hundreds of eager shoppers waited in line outside the store long before doors opened at noon with the line wrapping all the way out to Figueroa. The first 300 customers would receive a $100 gift card. Once the clock struck noon, cheers erupted and shoppers began filing into the new sprawling single-level 32,000 square foot store filled with attire for men, women, and children. As hundreds of shoppers left with their purchases toting H&M shopping bags, the writing on the wall was clear: Downtown LA is truly back and expect more big retailers to follow in the near future.
Great news if you want to shop late! H&M will be open Mon thru Fri from 10 am to 10 pm, Sat from 10 am to 9 pm, and Sun from 11 am to 8 pm.

Just this past weekend, a beautiful new Aesop (apothecary) signature store opened at 9th/Broadway fueling the retail momentum along the historic thoroughfare. But it doesn’t stop there! The exciting flood of new retailers opening up in Downtown LA continues over at FIGat7th in the Financial District. Earlier today on Monday, H&M took down their construction boards at the open-air shopping center unveiling the brand new store to the public. Announced only half a year ago, this will be H&M’s largest flagship store in Southern California coming in at a whopping 32,000 square feet. Talk about making a huge statement coming into the DTLA market. The new store will carry H&M’s entire clothing collection including: men’s, women’s, lingerie and maternity, accessories, sports, and children’s apparel. Shoppers can rejoice as the grand opening is only a few days away set to open this Thursday at May 1, 2014 at noon.
Gap, Banana Republic, and other large retailers are now rumored to be searching for space in Downtown LA along either Broadway or 7th Street
Since Urban Outfitters and Acne Studios opened on Broadway in late December of last year, a whirlwind of new retailers have setup shop almost overnight nearby 9th and Broadway and the new Ace Hotel. OAK NYC, Tanner Goods, Aesop, and A.P.C. to name a few. But all up and down Broadway is fair game for other retailers including the apparent signing of Burlington Coat Factory at 7th/Broadway. Now, rumors are picking up that other large well-known brands — which once eschewed Downtown LA like the plague — have not only taken notice of all this new retail activity, but are actively looking for suitable spaces in Downtown LA as well. Where? Specifically along retail-conducive streets like Broadway and 7th Street where large redevelopment projects like The Bloc and Wilshire Grand Tower continue to generate buzz. Names like Gap, Banana Republic, J. Crew, Forever 21, and Anthropologie have all come up as brands searching or eyeing Downtown LA. No exact locations are yet confirmed for any of these brands, but the fact is, eventually they will find a home here. Only a matter of time. Also, within the next month or so, both Zara and H&M will be opening their exciting new LA flagship stores at FIGat7th that will further add fuel to the growing retail fire in Downtown LA.

The exciting retail news for Downtown LA just keeps coming! Rumors about H&M opening at FIGat7th had been swirling around for several months after Zara announced their 27,000 square foot LA flagship store in May. Then yesterday afternoon, the LA Times confirmed that a massive 32,000 square foot H&M will, indeed, open at FIGat7th in 2014 offering the “whole gamut” of the H&M clothing collection including: men’s, women’s, lingerie and maternity, accessories, sports, and children’s apparel. What I wanna see is H&M Home added to the Downtown LA location, which is still missing from the entire U.S. market.
